The purpose of this Award is to recognise and encourage the efforts of researchers, writers and translators working in the field of Australian Studies in China. The winning pieces were selected by a panel of judges comprised of experts in the area. The two winning authors and one publisher to be honoured are:  

  • Two joint winners for translation work: Ma Lili and Zhong Daoxian 马丽莉、钟道贤, as co-authors for their work on Jie Xiang 《街巷》, published by Huashan Literature and Art Publishing House in 2022, a Chinese translation of Street to Street by Brian Castro.

  • One special prize winner to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and the People’s Republic of China: Li Yao 李尧, as a co-author for his work on Happy Together: Bridging the Australia-China Divide, published by Melbourne University Press in 2022.One prize for a translation (from English to Chinese).

  • A special commendation will be given to the Huashan Literature and Art Publishing House for their work in publishing Jie Xiang 《街巷》. 

A virtual ceremony on 13th December 2022 will be held to award prizes to the winners of the 2022 Biennial Australian Studies in China Book Prize.
